Fed: New Governor General can learn from incumbent: O Donoghue
Governor-General-designate Anglican Archbishop PETER HOLLINGWORTH could learn from
the position's incumbent, Sir WILLIAM DEANE, says prominent Aboriginal leader LOWITJA
O'DONOGHUE.
Speaking at the Sydney launch of the third annual Journey of Healing commemoration
on May 26, Ms O'DONOGHUE said she was not disappointed at being overlooked for the role.
She has told reporters she had had no expectations whatsoever.
She congratulated Archbishop HOLLINGWORTH on his appointment, saying everyone looked
forward to him carrying on the good work of the present Governor General."
But she would not be drawn on the issue of whether an Aborigine should be Australia's
head of state.
