Fed: Job seekers giving up, says Kernot

The federal opposition's employment spokeswoman, CHERYL KERNOT, says disillusioned
job seekers have given up looking for work.

Unemployment fell back below the seven per cent mark in January to 6.8 per cent seasonally
adjusted, despite a big fall in the number of people in work.

Ms KERNOT says the reduction in the jobless rate was due to people giving up on finding work.

She's told reporters in Brisbane that thousands of Australians lost their jobs in January,
and full time employment fell by 39,700.

Ms KERNOT says it's no wonder so many have simply given up looking for work.
