Qld: New racing body takes over

A senior public servant from Racing Minister MERRI ROSE'S department will head the
Interim Thoroughbred Racing Board.

The board took control of racing in Queensland from the Queensland Principal Club today.

State Parliament approved the appointment of the board after Ms ROSE sacked the Principal
Club because it was becoming too parochial.

The board will run Queensland racing until a permanent Thoroughbred Racing Board is
set up next year ahead of the formation of a company to control the industry.

Ms ROSE says LAURIE LONGLAND, an executive director in the Department of Tourism, Racing
and Fair Trading, will chair the interim board.
