NSW: CountryLink booking staff walk off the job

CountryLink booking staff will walk off the job for 24 hours today, causing disruptions
to passengers wanting to buy long distance rail and coach tickets.

A CountryLink spokesman says the industrial action will involve most staff at CountryLink's
34 retail booking outlets in NSW.

He would not discuss the reason behind the industrial action.

The spokesman says passengers should telephone the CountryLink reservations hotline
or accredited travel agents if they wanted to book tickets today.

He says passengers booked on CountryLink train and coach services today will be able
to collect and pay for their tickets on board.

Meanwhile, trains in western Sydney will be disrupted and some services cancelled from
next Monday for two weeks due to major upgrades and track maintenance.

A CityRail spokesman says the upgrade will affect commuters on the Western and Cumberland
lines from Monday the 3rd of May through to May the 14th.
